According to the Framingham Heart Study, people suffering from obesity have a 27% increased risk of hypertension. They have an increase in fatty tissue that forces heart to work harder and puts more pressure on the arteries. According to a Center for Disease Control and Prevention report, about 7 in 10 U.S. adults with high blood pressure use medications to treat the condition. The CDC also reported high blood pressure costs the United States about $48.6 billion each year. With healthier choices, we can reduce the amount of medication needed.
